Democratic Structures
Parent Council
The Parent Council convenes once a month. After a presentation on a specific pedagogical topic that is held either by the school principal or an expert, other school-related topics are discussed such as school uniforms, homework or issues regarding the way to school.
Student Council
There are two heads of the Student Council who represent our students' interests. They regularly meet with the school principal. They also lead meetings with other students who represent the interests of students in a class. The student council is looked after by a teacher who is specifically appointed for this task.
Teacher Council
The Teacher Council is elected by all teachers. It is mainly concerned with questions regarding work conditions, salaries, salary structure, pensions, and health insurance. The Teacher Council has the right to be heard by the school direction in case of complaints by employees, although this right doesn't extend to situations involving personnel decisions. The highest decision-making body of teachers, the so-called „Gesamtlehrerkonferenz“, elects the members of the Parent/Teacher/Student Conference.
Parent/Teacher/Student Conference
The Parent/Teacher/Student Conference consists of the school principal, six teachers, three representatives of the Parent Council, as well as three representatives of the Student Council. It is the highest decision-making body in a school and is involved in all major decisions. The Council at Talitha Kumi constitutes a stable democratic structure in which questions of education, school activities, future planning and developments regarding the school are discussed.
