The Library
Public libraries are very rare in Palestine. Oral communication is much more significant to people than reading or writing. And as in most of the world, television has changed daily life. Family conversations are centered around TV shows and programs.
At Talitha Kumi, the library is a popular spot for both students and teachers. Here, they work on school projects, study textbooks and specialized literature, or search the internet for information. They also use the library to relax with a book after a long, hard day. Students can borrow books over the weekend. A trained librarian can assist them if they need anything special.
The library at Talitha Kumi plays a very important role in the education of our children. When their parents earn too little money for food, there is even less money available for luxuries like books. But education is the best investment in the future. Good literature can encourage children, give them comfort, and inspire imagination and the love of life. Even the youngest can discover the joy of reading with good children's books.
